最後まで ‐ Just to Finish The Race

ちょっと悲しい情報がありました。　杉山選手練習で手の指に骨折しました。　また怪我の製で、チームメートがなくなりました。　残念です。
Sad news. Sugiyama broke his hand's finger during a practice. He is another loss for this season's end.

山蔦と鈴村の事を見ると、いろんな思い出が来る。　去年の肩の手術と復帰出来るまでの道思い出します。　あの時、このストーリーを見て感動しました。
Thinking about　him, Suzumura and Yamatsuta, reminds me my own situation one year ago, when I was going to have a surgery in my right shoulder. Then, I heard this story.

Barcelona 92, Dereck Redmond.

400メートル走で金メダルをとることをずっと夢見ていた。
準決勝のスタートの合図が鳴ったとき、彼は夢の実現に向けてさらに一歩を踏み出した。　走りは好調だ。　直線にさしかかれば、ゴールはすぐそこだ。 そこで悲劇は起こった。　足の裏がわに激痛が走る。　右太股の裏の腱が断裂し、彼は顔から地面に倒れた。
He was one of the favourites to win the 400m sprint. The gold medal was his dream and to pass through the semi-finals was just one more step toward to it.
The start was good, the finish line was just ahead. But suddenly a tragedy took place. He tore his hamstring and fell in great pain.

彼の悔しさがイメージが出来ません。　自分の夢が目の前にだんだん消えました。　オリンピックの選手がその時みたいのために生きる。　
I can't imagine what it meant to him to see his dream vanishing away before his eyes that way. Olympic Athletes dedicate an entire life just for this moment.

医療班が駆けつけるなか、レドモンドはなんとか立ち上がろうとした。 動物的な本能だった」と、彼は後に語っている。 ゴールすることしか頭になかったレドモンドは、片足だけで走り始める。
彼が直線に入ったとき、観客席からＴシャツを着た大柄な男が飛び出してきた。 その男は警備員を押しのけ、レドモンドのもとに駆け寄ると、彼を抱きしめた。男の名はジム・レドモンド、デレクの父親だった。
But there was something else. After a few moments, he got up and tried to finish the race. For him, it was the only thing he could do. People tried to stop him, but he didn't. Jumping in one leg, through a lot of pain, he was trying with all his strength to go as futher as he could. Then, a big man came down from the stand and started to run towards him. He was Derek's father, Jim. Hugging his son he said:

「もういい」と、彼は涙を流す息子に言った。
「いいや、僕は走る」とデレクは答えた。
「それなら」とジム。「２人でゴールを目指そう」
- You don't have to do this son.
- Yes I do.
- Well, then we are going to finish this together.

そして、２人はゴールを目指した。
警備員を押しのけながら、彼らはゴールまでずっとデレクのコースを歩き続けた。
And they crossed the finish line.

たまに勝利よりもっと大事なものがあります。　自分を選んだ道最後までを歩く事がすべてです。　それを出来るためにデレクさんを見せられた勇気を忘れない。
The matter is not to win or lose. Sometimes, to go as further as you can is the most important thing. To walk the path you chose. I hope to have the same courage he showed until his last lap.
